About Bolide

Bolide is an innovative item from Hermès that is said to be the first bag in the world to use a zipper. When it was first introduced in 1923, it was named Bugatti because its shape resembled the radiator grille of the French luxury car Bugatti, but it was later renamed Bolide (fast car), which also comes from the luxury car. Zippers were invented in the United States during World War I and were later used in Canada to secure car tops, but Hermès took notice of this technology and adopted it as a way to prevent luggage from spilling out of bags.
