Spring Drive

The Spring Drive employs a speed-regulating mechanism "tri-synchronized regulator" that controls the unwinding force of the mainspring with an IC circuit. This is Grand Seiko 's original design that uses the mainspring of a mechanical watch as power and the electric signal of the IC and crystal oscillator used in quartz watches. It is powered by a mainspring like a mechanical wristwatch, but the average monthly difference is about ±10 to 15 seconds, the same as a standard quartz wristwatch.
Seiko's high technological prowess can be seen from the innovative and original mechanism that overturns the common sense of wristwatches.

スプリングドライブは、クオーツ式とは異なり、機械式のゼンマイ同様に力強いトルクを有しています。これにより、一般的なクオーツ式腕時計では難しい、太く重たい針やクロノグラフなどの機構も搭載が可能になりました。 ゼンマイのほどける力を利用してIC回路を動かすため、クオーツ式のように電池交換を行う必要はありません。
また、クオーツは1秒ごとに「チッチッチッ」と針が進みますが、スプリングドライブは文字盤の上を「スー」と滑らかに進んでいきます。静かに時を刻むかのような針の動きも、人気の理由のひとつです。

Spring Drive is featured in various Grand Seiko models. The main models to be installed are the Ref.SBGA211, which has an impressive snowy dial, the Ref.SBGE213, which has a unique black dial and red 24-hour hand, and the first Grand Seiko diver's model, the Ref. Such as "Ref.SBGA231", which is the successor model of "SBGA029".
