Since its release in 1967, the Aquatimer boasts a high degree of perfection. At the time of the first model, it had waterproof performance up to a depth of 200m and an inner rotating bezel. The "Porsche Design by IWC" Ocean 2000, a collaboration model between Porsche Design and IWC announced in 1982, uses titanium for the case and achieves 2000m water resistance.

In addition, the dial uses green and blue luminous paints for excellent visibility even underwater with poor visibility. In addition, it can be said that it is a diver's watch with professional specifications, such as a clutch mechanism that allows the inside of the case to be washed.

The biggest feature of the Aquatimer is the rotating outer/inner bezel with a safe dive system. This system has been installed since the model announced in 2014, and was developed to prevent misidentification of time measurement during diving. Even if the outer bezel moves clockwise, the inner bezel does not rotate and is only linked to counterclockwise movement. It combines the advantages of a highly durable rotating inner bezel and an easy-to-operate rotating outer bezel.

The distinctive design of the Aquatimer is due to this rotating outer/inner bezel.

The latest model, the Aquatimer, uses IWC's patented "Bracelet Quick Exchange System". The stainless steel bracelet and rubber strap can be exchanged with a simple operation that does not require special tools. The bracelet can be changed quickly, making it easy to use in a wide range of situations, from waterside scenes to town use.
