About Panerai
Panerai is a brand that started in 1860 as a watch studio and the first watchmaking school in Florence.
Initially they developed as a munitions manufacturer that develops military precision equipments.
Watches for private sector were released in 1993, about 130 years after the company was founded. Panerai watches, which are highly waterproof and keep time accurately even underwater, have been highly trusted by divers of the Italian Navy.
Currently, they release many watches for civilian use, but the high functionality and excellent operability unique to military watches are still inherited. Their collection, which is both robust and easy to use, gain a lot of support.
A wristwatch that was out of the gate
Since its inception, Panerai has been handling munitions products for the Italian Navy and other military forces. Especially well-known are the collections "Radiomir" and "Luminor". Both are highly waterproof and are known as diving watches that use a unique luminous paint to improve visibility.
Wristwatches developed by Panerai was treated as military secret and was kept secret. The first civilian wristwatch was produced in 1993, when military demand began to decline with the end of the Cold War. After that, in 1997, they joined the Richemont Group and expanded distribution. Today, it has grown into a global luxury watch maker.

Functionality and robustness for military use
Panerai, which was supplying precision equipment to the Italian Navy since the beginning of 1900, take pride in their wristwatches' high precision and durability. In 1916, they developed a radium-based fluorescent material to improve the visibility of instruments and obtained a patent for it. Futhermore, they kept researching on waterproofing, and in 1938 commercialized the military diver's watch "Radiomir".
Later, "Luminor," which was released as an advanced version of Radiomir, adopted new fluorescent substance Tritium to further improve visibility.
Even after it has become a luxury watch brand in the private sector, its excellent functionality and robustness have been carried over to each collection as Panerai's esprit.

Large and thick case that caused the big wave
Sophisticated design and large-thick size are indispensable when talking about Panerai watches. The form that emphasizes visibility is unique to Panerai, whose roots are military watches. The distinctive design that can be noticed at a glance became popular, and had a great influence on watches of other brands.
In the 1990s, watches with large and thick cases became popular, but it was Panerai watches that drove this boom.
In recent years, collections with reduced case size and thickness have also been released. In addition, They established their position as a manufacturer brand by developing a movement that is completely manufactured in-house.
